- The special project "Science to win" will tell about the most important discoveries of Soviet scientists during the Second World War

The Great Patriotic War became not only a confrontation of armies, but also a struggle of minds. The victory of the Soviet Union was ensured, among other things, by an advantage in technology. Medical laboratories, drawing boards, and research facilities became the battleground for Soviet scientists. The special project "Science to Win" included the most striking scientific discoveries that brought the triumph closer on May 9, 1945.
The most important achievements of the Soviet Academy of Sciences, whose staff in the shortest possible time managed to put the metallurgical complex of the Urals and Kuzbass on military rails, set up the production of aircraft engines in the evacuation, develop new oil fields, improve tank armor, introduce new surgical methods at the front, and much more.
In a separate article, Izvestia collected the most interesting exhibits from the time of the Great Patriotic War from the repository of the Polytechnic Museum. These included the legendary Soviet film camera, which was used to film military chronicles, a special photo scanner for reconnaissance images, commander's GAS and other inventions.
The difficult situation at the front forced Soviet doctors to resort to unexpected solutions. Simple sphagnum moss, which grew abundantly in swampy areas in various regions of the Soviet Union, became an excellent substitute for bandages, which were catastrophically picked up. At the same time, the plant had excellent healing properties and saved many lives thanks to it.
