Medical laboratories, drawing boards, and research facilities became the battleground for Soviet scientists. The most important achievements of the Soviet Academy of Sciences, whose staff in the shortest possible time managed to put the metallurgical complex of the Urals and Kuzbass on military rails, set up the production of aircraft engines in the evacuation, develop new oil fields, improve tank armor, introduce new surgical methods at the front, and much more.

Simple sphagnum moss, which grew abundantly in swampy areas in various regions of the Soviet Union, became an excellent substitute for bandages, which were catastrophically picked up.
