The Netherlands and Australia have demanded that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) oblige Russia to begin negotiations on the crash of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 operating flight MH17 in 2014 in Donbas. This was announced on Monday, May 12, on the website of the Dutch government.

"The Netherlands and Australia are asking the ICAO Council to oblige the Russian Federation to enter into negotiations with the Netherlands and Australia," the statement said.

According to the publication, ICAO allegedly earlier that day found Russia responsible for the plane crash and violation of the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation.

The demand for negotiations is related to the Council's consideration of the issue of compensation for damages.

The Boeing 777 airliner operating flight MH17 Amsterdam – Kuala Lumpur crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014. 298 people became victims of the disaster. The case of the passenger plane crash was investigated by a joint investigation team led by the Dutch Prosecutor's office without the participation of Russia.

On June 17, 2024, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russia was ending its participation in the dispute with Australia and the Netherlands over the crash of the Boeing 777, which was being considered by the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
