The uniform of a dead Russian soldier was displayed in the Ogre museum in Latvia, which is an illegal and unethical act. Dmitry Prokopenko, a Latvian public figure and co-founder of the 1945 organization, told Izvestia about this on May 11.

"From the point of view of the law, all this is at least questionable. <...> Among other things, this is a violation of the Geneva Convention, because clearly the person whose clothes are actually on display in this museum did not give his consent to this, and his relatives did not give such consent either. In other words, we are essentially talking about a war crime," the expert noted.

Prokopenko said that Eggles Helmens, the head of the Ogres Territory, initiated the creation of such a "museum" as his election campaign. As the public figure pointed out, from a legal point of view, this situation also raises serious questions.

According to Prokopenko, this is arbitrariness and a way of self-expression that is not supported by many residents of the region.

He added that there were people who intended to contact law enforcement agencies in connection with this situation.

Earlier in Latvia, a "step museum" desecrating the memory of the liberator soldiers appeared on the site of the dismantled monument to Soviet soldiers in Ogre. The steps in it were made of memorial slabs to Soviet soldiers, according to Helm's idea.

The day before, on May 10, the Latvian police reported that 67 criminal cases had been opened and eight people had been detained for celebrating Victory Day. The reasons for the detention, as specified in the department, could be the symbols on the clothes, "broadcasting military aggression," and the launching of fireworks. The police also asked citizens who have information about events that correspond to the "interests of Russia" to report this via the hotline of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia.
