The US armed forces have carried out a number of airstrikes against an ISIL cell (IS, an organization recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation) in the autonomous region of Puntland in eastern Somalia. This was announced on Monday, May 12, by the African Command of the US Armed Forces (AFRICOM).

"AFRICOM announced that, in coordination with the Government of Somalia, they launched an airstrike 70 km southeast of Bosaso," the ministry said in a statement.

They also noted that specific information about the units or assets of the service would not be disclosed in order to "ensure the security" of other operations in the region.

Earlier, on May 3, US coalition aircraft destroyed infrastructure at an oil field in Syria. It is clarified that the destroyed infrastructure was previously used by US troops before their evacuation from the region.

On the same day, Al Arabiya reported on the withdrawal of US troops from the Al-Omar and Konoko oil fields in the province of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria. The American troops withdrew all their soldiers from the Konoko and Omar ranges. There are only about 50 soldiers and officers left on the last one. These two bases are among the largest U.S. bases in eastern Syria, the newspaper said.
