About 500,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are suffering from extreme food shortages resulting from the suspension of humanitarian aid and the blockade by the Israeli Army (IDF). 57 children have died of starvation since March 2. This is on Monday, May 12, according to a press release published on the website of the World Health Organization (WHO) with reference to the Ministry of Health.

"The entire 2.1 million population of Gaza is facing prolonged food shortages, and almost half a million people are in a catastrophic situation of hunger, acute malnutrition, exhaustion, disease and death," the publication says.

At the same time, they added that the number of minors who died of starvation was probably underestimated.

According to the WHO, if the situation does not change, about 71,000 children under the age of five will suffer from catastrophic food shortages for another 11 months.

Earlier in the day, Al Jazeera TV channel reported that the IDF bombing of a girls' school in the city of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip killed 15 people, including children. It is specified that the strike carried out by the Israeli army as part of a military raid on the northern part of the Gaza Strip hit the second floor of an educational institution.
