- The media reported a decline in the popularity of the United States in the world after Trump's return to the White House

The popularity of the United States in the world is rapidly declining after the return of Donald Trump to the presidency. This was reported on May 12 by Politico, citing opinion polls.
According to Politico, the "Democratic Perception Index" (DPI) 2025 summarizes attitudes towards democracy, geopolitics, and global players. The study involved more than 110,000 respondents from 100 countries.
It is reported that the majority of respondents have a generally negative attitude towards the United States, which was a sharp decrease compared to last year. The country's reputation has been particularly badly damaged in the EU, given that Trump called the bloc "terrible," "pathetic," and "designed to deceive the United States," the article says.
Politico adds that China has continued to improve its global position, surpassing the United States for the first time and registering a mostly positive perception in all regions except Europe.
It clarifies that Trump's reputation corresponds to that of his country. The survey showed that the American leader is less popular in the world than Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Trump recorded the worst performance among political, cultural and spiritual leaders, including the owner of the social network X (ex. Twitter) Elon Musk, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the late Pope Francis, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian, the publication notes.
Earlier, on April 2, Trump announced large-scale measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For Europe, this figure has been raised to 20%. In his speech, the president called April 2 the day when Americans will become rich again.
Later, on May 12, the American president said that trade with the European Union (EU) was more disgusting to him than with China. Trump clarified that the EU was forcing American pharmaceutical companies "to do what they didn't like to do." The President added that European countries also often sued American companies, while resorting to using their own judges.
