The German government will no longer openly comment on the possible transfer of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. This was reported on May 12 by the Euractiv portal, citing sources in the German Ministry of Defense.

According to the publication, the new leadership of the country has decided to maintain confidentiality in matters of military assistance, including the supply of long-range systems.

The representative of the German Ministry of Defense noted that the importance of the Taurus missiles in the public debate "has been overestimated," and stressed that Germany would continue to support Ukraine, but "without disclosing specifics."

Earlier in the day, German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl said that Germany was ready to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine if Moscow and Kiev did not reach a ceasefire agreement. It was clarified that the parliamentarians of the last convocation showed that, if necessary, they could accept another €3 billion aid package.

On May 7, Friedrich Merz, who took office as German Chancellor, avoided a question from a ZDF journalist about the supply of Taurus cruise missiles to Kiev. However, he noted that the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, can rely on him and Germany.
