French President Emmanuel Macron does not advocate peaceful initiatives on the issue of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 12 by deputy of the French National Assembly party, member of the People's Union party Sebastian Chenu.

"Macron is obsessed with sending troops. He repeats it in the morning, afternoon and evening...> Macron, in any case, does not come up with peace initiatives that could be expected from him," he said on the Four Truths program.

According to the MP, Macron's idea to send a French contingent to the territory of Ukraine is not related to the peacekeeping forces. Chenu stressed that the French president had long expressed the need to increase the number of his troops at the borders.

The MP noted that Paris should negotiate and mobilize states that can help Moscow and Kiev come together at the negotiating table. He clarified that Macron, like the European Union (EU), was just watching the actions of other countries.

On May 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia was offering Ukraine to resume direct talks in Istanbul on May 15. On the same day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky responded with an ultimatum — he demanded a cease-fire from May 12. US President Donald Trump called on Ukraine to accept the Russian proposal immediately, after which Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel that he would come to Turkey for talks on May 15.

Alexander Konkov, associate professor of the Department of Political Science at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on May 12 that the European Union was not interested in peace talks on the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, the EU seeks to develop a "spiral of violence" against Russia.
