Erdogan called the talks with Putin on Ukraine meaningful

The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the conflict in Ukraine were meaningful. This was announced by the Turkish leader at a cabinet meeting on May 12.
"We had a meaningful meeting with the French President [Emmanuel] Macron and [a conversation] with Russian President Putin," the TRT Haber TV channel quoted him as saying.
According to him, the Turkish side, among other things, supports the efforts of US President Donald Trump to resolve conflicts through diplomatic means. Erdogan stressed that Ankara is ready to contribute to the negotiations between Moscow, Kiev, Washington and Europe.
"A new window of opportunity has opened. I hope that this time the opportunity will not be missed," the Turkish president said.
Telephone conversations between Putin and Erdogan took place on Sunday, May 11. During the conversation, the Turkish leader said that he welcomes the statement of his Russian counterpart on the need to continue peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul from the place where they were stopped in 2022.
On May 11, Putin announced that Russia was offering Ukraine to resume direct talks in Istanbul on May 15. On the same day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky responded with an ultimatum — he demanded a cease-fire from May 12. Trump called on Ukraine to accept the Russian proposal immediately, after which Zelensky wrote on the Telegram channel that he would come to Turkey on May 15 for talks.
