As a result of a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) using the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), military priest Priest Anthony Savchenko was killed in the area of his home. This was announced on May 12 by the Synodal Department for Cooperation with the Armed Forces of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).

"While performing his pastoral duties in the SVR area, a full—time military priest, Priest Anthony Savchenko, tragically died," the organization's Telegram channel says.

It is specified that the deceased was 32 years old. He was a cleric of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Pskov, and in the armed forces he served as rector of the church of the Blessed Prince Dmitry Donskoy in one of the units.

Earlier, on April 2, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the car of Archpriest Maxim Kokhanov in the Luhansk People's Republic (LNR). According to the regional government, he received shrapnel wounds to his head and legs while returning from worship. He was later diagnosed with a concussion.
