- The expert spoke about the search by Iran and the United States for ways to de-escalate tensions

The Iranian authorities and the administration of US President Donald Trump are trying to reduce tensions in relations and are looking for ways to de-escalate, but the United States may continue to put pressure on Iran to achieve greater concessions. This opinion was expressed by Vladimir Demidov, an expert on the resources and energy market, in an interview with Izvestia on May 12.
"The US presidential administration is looking for ways to reduce tension and is doing everything not to escalate this problem to an armed conflict. But at the same time, there is a very strong Israeli lobby in the United States. <...> This state believes that Iran, that the Islamic Republic is an existential threat to Israel, therefore it is doing everything to weaken the republic. Therefore, it is very difficult to say what will happen. Obviously, both sides — Iran and the United States — are looking for ways to de-escalate," Demidov explained.
He noted that insulting and angry headlines mentioning Trump have practically disappeared in the Iranian press, which once again confirms the parties' intention to resolve the conflict. At the same time, according to the expert, the United States can continue to exert pressure on Iran until it achieves the desired conditions.
"The first thing they will do is to restrict the transport tankers that carry Iranian oil. This will be a simultaneous attack on both Iran and China, because China is the key buyer of Iranian oil. I think that the most important blow will be the restriction of any external trade interactions between Iran and other countries," Demidov suggested.
Earlier, on May 11, Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian said that the country's complete abandonment of its nuclear program was impossible. In addition, he noted that it is planned to further develop Iran's peaceful nuclear industry and seek common ground during the negotiations, which are necessary, among other things, to show Tehran's desire for peace, not conflict.
