The leader of the German Green Party, Drege, warned against trusting Merz.

The words of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz cannot be relied upon. This was announced on May 12 by the leader of the Green faction in the Bundestag, Katharina Drege.
"You can't rely on Friedrich Merz's words," she said in an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper.
According to her, he built his election campaign on statements that he never intended to fulfill. She called it a significant problem.
In addition, Drege clarified that Merz promised to cut taxes, but could not say how to finance them, and opposed the demands of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the Green Party on the reform of the debt brake system.
She added that, among other things, in the context of migration policy, the current chancellor proposed initiatives that "could not be implemented because they were illegal."
The day before, the Bild newspaper reported on the dissatisfaction of more than 50% of German citizens with the work of the new chancellor. According to the survey results, less than a quarter of all respondents are satisfied with Merz's work — 23% of the country's residents.
On May 6, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier appointed Merz as the new Chancellor of Germany. The German President congratulated the new head of the German government and wished him success. The leader of the alliance of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) was elected to the post of chancellor on the second attempt.
