- Rospotrebnadzor assessed the situation with the incidence of West Nile fever in the Russian Federation

The peak incidence of West Nile fever (WNF) in Russia is expected in August, and the high risk of infection will persist from June to September. This was reported on May 12 in the metropolitan Department of Rospotrebnadzor.
"The greatest epidemiological risk is expected mainly in the subjects of the Southern Federal District, the Central Federal District and the Volga Federal District, in which patients with HPV were previously identified," the agency's website says.
Rospotrebnadzor added that in the southern European part of Russia, where climatic conditions are best suited for the spread of the disease, the risk of infection exists from April to October.
The ministry recalled that HPV is an acute viral infectious disease that is transmitted through insect bites. It is indicated that the incubation period of the disease is usually from two days to three weeks.
It is noted that currently there are no specific methods for the prevention and treatment of LDL. To prevent the disease, measures can be used to protect against mosquito bites and control their breeding grounds, including standing water, landfills and flooded basements.
Earlier, on April 28, virologist Alexander Lukashev warned that the bites of some mosquitoes could pose a threat and lead to infection with diseases such as dirofilariasis and West Nile fever. He noted that the risk of the disease increases towards the end of the hot summer.
