There are many pragmatic people in the team of US President Donald Trump who are focused on solving issues in the interests of America, so the imposition of sanctions against Russia is now economically unprofitable for it. This opinion was expressed by State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa on Monday, May 12.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Trump had privately approved a statement on sanctions issued by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as British and Polish Prime Ministers Keir Starmer and Donald Tusk, who visited Kiev.

"For the United States, its own economic interests come first. We have seen this in relation to their closest neighbors and NATO partners. They don't care who they target or how they target their policies, as long as those policies protect America's economic interests. Today, it is less profitable for them to impose sanctions against Russia," Chepa said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

He added that currently there are different opinions about the American leader's attitude towards Russia, so it is necessary to judge this by the fact of certain actions. Chepa noted that any sanctions will only complicate the process of negotiations and preparation of agreements, because Russia will react to them.

On May 10, Merz, Macron, Starmer and Tusk arrived in Kiev for the summit of the coalition of the Willing, during which the leaders discussed a 30-day truce in Ukraine. 360.ru . At the same time, Macron threatened to "increase pressure" on Russia by European countries in coordination with the United States if Moscow refuses to cease fire, according to the website. kp.ru .

On April 30, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Viktor Goremykin said that European countries were resisting efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that at the recent Paris summit, European leaders discussed increasing pressure on Russia, as well as the possibility of sending NATO deterrence forces to Ukraine.

Earlier, on April 23, the head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Andriy Ermak, said that the meeting of representatives of Ukraine, Great Britain, France and Germany in London ended with an agreement on further consultations. According to him, the sides emphasized Trump's commitment to peace efforts.
