The talks between China and the United States on trade differences in Geneva were productive. This was announced on May 12 by the American President Donald Trump.

"We have achieved a complete reset of relations with China after productive negotiations in Geneva. Both sides agreed to reduce duties imposed after April 2 to 10% for 90 days," he said at a joint press conference with U.S. Secretary of Health Robert Kennedy Jr. at the White House.

At the same time, according to the American leader, the agreements between Beijing and Washington do not include duties on cars, steel, aluminum and those that can be imposed on pharmaceuticals.

The US President stressed that the talks in Geneva were held in a very friendly atmosphere. He also called the relations with China very good and noted that Washington does not want to strike at Beijing's position.

"I will talk to the [PRC] president. Xi [Jinping], maybe at the end of the week. There are other issues that we are dealing with," Trump added.

Earlier that day, the Xinhua news agency reported on the PRC's decision to suspend or cancel non-tariff countermeasures that were taken against the United States from April 2, 2025. It was clarified that Washington, in turn, plans to change additional customs duties on Chinese goods.

A high-level meeting between representatives of China and the United States on economic and trade issues took place on May 10 in Geneva. China was represented at the talks by Vice Premier He Lifeng, and the United States was represented by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. Following the talks, Trump announced a complete reset of US-China relations.
