- Only old people go to the top: the comedy "Dad 2. Grandfather" earned 1.5 billion rubles

The film "Blood Type" about the atrocities of fascists against children became the most powerful novelty last weekend in Russian cinemas. However, it started in the domestic box office only from the third line of the box office, having failed to dislodge the leaders - the first and second places in terms of fees, as well as a week earlier, are held by "Not listed" and "Kraken". The comedy "Father 2. Grandfather" dropped to the fourth place of the top, but took a new height — 1.5 billion rubles in total fees. Izvestia — the results of the Russian film distribution last weekend.
"Father 2. Grandfather" earned 1.5 billion
Cinema attendance dropped again last long weekend, from 2.1 million to 1.6 million viewers, according to the EAIS. This had a noticeable effect on the box office. The military drama about the defenders of the Brest Fortress with Vladimir Mashkov "Not on the list," which debuted in the box office a week earlier with 235 million rubles, held the lead this time, but credited less than 50 million rubles to its account - only 182 million.
"Kraken" with Alexander Petrov was again in second place, although the film showed a higher occupancy rate — an average of 22 people per session, while the rental leader had 19. The fantastic drama about sailors who, while searching for a missing submarine, have to face a giant monster from the depths, recorded another 130 million rubles (almost 100 million less than last weekend).
— It was the fees of the holders and, at the same time, the highest-grossing projects in May that decreased by 20-30 percent compared to the premiere weekend, which is considered standard dynamics and is even estimated as a slight drop. In general, the films could have collected an order of magnitude more, but celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory took place everywhere over the weekend - someone preferred to take part in memorial events or leave, someone stayed at home with their family to avoid crowds and closures," Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, told Izvestia.
Kraken, however, is confidently aiming for a billion in total fees. And the comedy "Father 2. Grandfather" with Vladimir Vdovichenkov and Evgeny Tsyganov has already overcome this mark. The total fees of the painting predictably exceeded 1.5 billion rubles. For the sake of fairness, it is worth noting that the premiere of the film took place a few weeks earlier — on April 3. Last holiday weekend, the film brought in another 52 million at the box office and took the fourth place in the rating.
New Russian films in cinema
Last weekend's domestic novelties did not seriously compete with the "oldies" for hire. The war drama "Blood Group" about a camp organized by the Nazis, where Soviet children are used as blood donors for wounded Germans, started from the third line of the box office with 73 million rubles.
— "Blood Type" is a very important project with a great sundress. This is not the kind of picture that blows up the fees, but which has been running at the box office for a very long time," explained Olga Zinyakova.
Completing the top 5 is the sports drama "Finale" starring Denis Shvedov as Vladimir Alekno, the volleyball coach who led the Russian men's national team to gold at the Olympic Games in 2012. In the first weekend at the box office, the film earned 50 million rubles. The cartoon "Dolphin Boy 2" started from the eighth line of the box office, earning 22.3 million rubles. The tenth place with 16 million rubles was taken by the comedy "The Devil got confused" with Pavel Derevyanko in the role of the tempter from hell.
May the "Thunderbolts*" strike
One of the most high—profile releases that will compete for the box office this weekend is "Thunderbolts*". Foreign critics call it one of the best Marvel films and the main blockbuster since The Avengers. In Russia, the film will be shown with short films as part of the pre-screening service.
— Of course, pirated films take up prime time from releases at the official box office. But this imbalance will not significantly contribute — the projects have too different target audiences," Olga Zinyakova believes. — In the near future, the comedies "The Deer" and "There" and the thriller "Crimson Shoal" promise to arouse high interest from the audience. And, of course, fans of Konstantin Khabensky will have a great spectator event — on May 14, before the theatrical premiere, a film version of the Moscow Art Theater play "Once upon a Time There was a House." will be shown in cinemas across Russia.
Among other things, the drama "Faithful Friend" starring Naomi Watts and Bill Murray is officially released in Russia on May 15. In the center of the plot is a writer from New York, who inherits from her close friend and mentor a huge naughty dog named Apollo. The new owner and the pet will have to learn how to get along together and help each other cope with the loss. Another foreign novelty is the French thriller "The Mysterious Murder of Belle" starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Guillaume Canet based on Georges Simenon's novel "Death of a Beauty".
