France positively assessed Putin's proposal for direct talks with Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal to hold direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul is a positive signal. This was announced on May 12 by the leader of the Get Up, France party, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan.
"This is a very positive signal. There is a proposal for direct negotiations. I think we should take advantage of this as soon as possible and finally find a way to peace. And I am convinced that we must achieve peace, that this is possible," he said in an interview with Sputnik Africa.
According to him, the parties are on the right path to a peace agreement if they "show good faith." Dupont-Aignan noted that the Ukrainian conflict must be resolved within the framework of a comprehensive agreement, where Ukraine will become a neutral, demilitarized country.
On May 11, Putin announced that Russia was offering Ukraine to resume direct talks in Istanbul on May 15. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later said that the proposal voiced by the Russian president indicates a real desire for peace.
Peskov said on May 12 that Russia's approach to direct negotiations with Ukraine had met with understanding and support from the leaders of many states. Peskov also stressed that Russia is committed to a serious search for ways to achieve a long-term peaceful settlement.
