According to investigators, the group was established in the early 1990s, and its activities were suppressed in 2019, when active members of the community were detained and arrested.

In addition, the FSB's Public Relations Center reported the discovery and seizure of more than 100 weapons and explosives from the Taganskaya organized crime group's cache, including 35 Kalashnikov assault rifles of various modifications, 27 pistols of foreign and Russian brands, nine revolvers, eight rifles with optics and silencers, eight submachine guns and more. 15 thousand rounds of different calibers.

The criminal case against 11 defendants was submitted to the Moscow City Court in 2021 for consideration on the merits. Grigory Rabinovich, the leader of the Taganskaya organized crime group, who was detained in 2019, died in a pre-trial detention center in Moscow on June 26, 2024. According to the Izvestia source, the cause of death of the defendant, known in criminal circles as Grisha Tagansky, could have been a heart attack. The man died at night in the "Matrosskaya Tishina", before he lived to see the trial.
