Russia's approach to direct negotiations with Ukraine has met with understanding and support from the leaders of many states. This was announced on May 12 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"As you know, summing up the celebrations and numerous meetings with foreign guests, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin issued a statement in which he clearly outlined the Russian Federation's position on resuming direct negotiations without any preconditions, those negotiations that were interrupted in 2022," Peskov said at a briefing.

The President's press secretary stressed that the Russian initiative was understood by many foreign leaders. He recalled that the position of US President Donald Trump, who had previously called on Kiev to participate in the negotiations, is also known.
