The bitcoin exchange rate in 2025 may update the historical maximum and reach $ 120-130 thousand. Denis Astafyev, founder of the SharesPro investment company, shared this opinion with Izvestia on May 12.

On the afternoon of May 12, the cost of bitcoin, according to the Binance site, exceeded $ 105 thousand for the first time since January 31.

"Bitcoin is increasingly seen as an alternative to gold, a protective asset in the face of global instability, sanctions pressure and trade restrictions. This is especially noticeable against the background of unstable markets and rising geopolitical risks," he commented.

Astafyev added that liquidity has returned to the cryptocurrency market. In particular, the expert noted the growth of the M2 money supply and their reaching new historical highs. According to him, China is particularly active in this regard: the inclusion of the printing press in China supports speculative demand for crypto assets.

Independent economist, Candidate of Economic Sciences Andrey Barkhota, in turn, noted that the bitcoin exchange rate will not undergo major changes by the summer.

"A wider range can be given — from $ 95 to 115 thousand for one bitcoin. Most likely, the exchange rate in this range will be at the end of May — beginning of June. And [market] participants will exploit cryptocurrency units, and, in principle, there is no serious adjustment of the bitcoin exchange rate yet," he said.

Barkhota added that bitcoin is sensitive to outbreaks of instability in the world, in particular, to the escalation of the conflict between India and Pakistan.

"We understand that, among other things, the arms trade often takes place in a shadow mode, payment is made using cryptocurrencies, in particular, bitcoin. Therefore, it is most likely a reaction to an armed escalation," he concluded.
