Emigration of Russians from Estonia has broken a multi-year record

The number of Russian citizens who left Estonia exceeded the number of Russians who arrived in the country for the first time in 20 years. This was stated on May 12 in the article by the chief analyst of the Estonian Department of Statistics, Kristian Erik Loik.
It is specified that last year only about 600 Russian citizens came to Estonia. This is three times less than the number of arrivals in 2019. Then about 1,700 Russians moved to the country.
In addition, the flow of people with undetermined citizenship has also decreased. Last year, the number of people who entered the country was 200, in 2015 — 500. The changes are related to Estonia's strict migration policy towards these individuals and a decrease in interest in emigrating to the country, adds "Газета.Ru ".
In addition, in 2024, more citizens left Estonia than arrived. Such figures were recorded for the first time since 2020. It is reported that the peak outflow of people was observed at the age of 35-39 years.
On March 11, the newspaper Politico reported that the European Union (EU) may develop a pan-European system for the return of migrants to their homeland. The project envisaged improving the process of expelling migrants, tougher penalties for non-compliance with the deportation decree and the creation of "return points" outside the EU, where migrants awaiting deportation would be accommodated.
