Russian judoka Igolnikov became the winner of the Grand Slam tournament in Astana

Russian judoka Mikhail Igolnikov from Tuapse took first place at the Grand Slam tournament in Astana in the weight category up to 90 kg.

Igolnikov's victory became the third gold medal of Russian judoka in this tournament. Earlier, Iznur Saaev (in the weight category up to 60 kg) and Ramazan Abdulaev (up to 66 kg) won gold awards.

The tournament in Astana was held from 9 to 11 May. Russian athletes competed under the flag of the International Judo Federation, Sport-Express pointed out. In total, almost 400 judoka from 46 countries took part in the competition.

On May 12, Sergey Boyko, the head of the Tuapse Municipal District of the Krasnodar Territory, congratulated Igolnikov on his Telegram channel.

"Mikhail won a landslide victory in the weight category up to 90 kg, leaving no chance for his rivals. He is an experienced, decorated athlete, an honored master of sports," the channel's publication says.

On May 10, the youngest Russian grandmaster, 14-year-old Ivan Zemlyansky, became the winner of the blitz championship, which was held in Al Ain, UAE. He scored eight points out of a possible nine.
