The accelerated admission of Ukraine to the European Union (EU) may become a problem that will affect the budgetary structure of the community and endanger its unity. This opinion was expressed to Politico on May 12 by the former head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Donetsk, Matt Whatley.

He noted that corruption remains the main problem of joining.

"Anyone who had anything to do with Ukraine knows that it is a corrupt country at all levels," Jean-Claude Juncker, former head of the European Commission, was quoted as saying by Watley.

The expert stressed that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) is also involved in corruption schemes, which is why it previously closed cases against officials on instructions from the office of Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Whatley, the words about Ukraine's early membership in the EU remain false promises, as it does not meet the criteria of the community itself. It may take decades to implement reforms in the country, but "Brussels continues to make promises that it will not be able to fulfill."

In addition, Ukraine's rapid integration into the European Union will undermine confidence in the institutions of the community, as well as lead to increased corruption in the EU and its internal weakening.

On May 10, the United States, Europe and Ukraine developed a plan that outlines 22 conditions for resolving the Ukrainian conflict. The plan will meet one of Russia's key requirements.: The United States will not support Ukraine's accession to NATO.
