The Novosibirsk Regional Court sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for setting fire to a relay cabinet. The press service of the ministry informed about this on May 12.
"The court sentenced Sergei Kondakov to imprisonment for a period of 10 years, with serving the first 2 years and 6 months in prison, and the rest of the sentence in a high—security penal colony," the agency said in a publication posted on the VKontakte social network.
It is specified that the accused corresponded with his wife's cousin, who lives in Ukraine. He told a relative how to earn extra money. As a result, Kondakov had to contact an unknown person who offered a reward of $500. In order to receive the amount, the accused was offered to commit sabotage in the Novosibirsk region.
Kondakov set fire to the relay cabinet, which ensures the operation of alarm systems, centralization and blocking of railway tracks, on the stretch between the stations "Inya-Vostochnaya" and "Mochishche". He filmed the process of sabotage on his phone, after which he fled the scene and sent a video to the supervisor to confirm the completion of the task.
"Kondakov's illegal actions created a threat to safety on railway transport, led to a delay in train traffic. Russian Railways suffered damage in the amount of 575.8 thousand rubles," the court informed.
The man fully admitted his guilt in committing the crime.
Earlier, on May 9, it was reported that a foreigner from Central Asia was detained in Barnaul, intending to set fire to the cathedral building. According to the press service of the Department of the Federal Security Service for the Altai Territory, he was a supporter of an international terrorist organization banned in Russia.
