- The Interior Ministry warned about fraud through a payment on an allegedly secure website

Fraudsters disguised as buyers can steal bank card data by offering to pay for goods to the seller through a secure payment on a supposedly secure website. This was reported to TASS on May 12 by the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
According to the agency, the attackers contact the seller in order to purchase a product or service. Then, when it comes to payment, they say they deposited the money into a supposedly secure account on a secure website, after which they send the victim a link that leads to a phishing website.
As soon as a person clicks on the link and enters their details, they immediately end up in the hands of scammers who empty the bank account. The Interior Ministry staff emphasized that it is best to buy and sell goods in trusted stores and marketplaces, and reviews should be studied before buying.
On May 11, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that fraudsters began creating fake group chats, giving them the appearance of officiality in order to mislead people. So, the attackers pose as employers and add people to chat rooms, where "colleagues" share their experiences and claim that they have already gone through the procedures to which the scammers need to persuade the user.
