On May 11, American leader Donald Trump thanked all those involved who helped free the Israeli hostage with American citizenship, Eden Alexander.

"I am pleased to announce that Eden Alexander, a U.S. citizen who has been held hostage since October 2023, is returning home to his family. I am grateful to everyone involved in making this monumental news happen," Trump said in a message on the Truth Social network.

He clarified that Alexander's release could be "one of the last steps" to achieve peace between Israel and Hamas. In addition, the president added that this step is a "spirit of goodwill" towards the United States, Qatar and Egypt for their help in resolving the conflict.

On May 11, Hamas representatives expressed their intention to release U.S. citizen Eden Alexander. Dmitry Gendelman, adviser to the Office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, confirmed these plans. According to him, this action on the part of Hamas is "a gesture of goodwill to the American side." The Egyptian and Qatari authorities also welcomed Hamas' decision.
