Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, has ordered a criminal case to be opened in connection with the desecration of the Bronze Soldier, a monument to the soldier who liberated Tallinn from the Nazi invaders. The corresponding order was published on May 12 on the website of the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

"Bastrykin instructed the central office of the department to open a criminal case on this fact and, in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry, to establish all the circumstances of the incident," the statement said.

The Estonian newspaper Postimees reported on the desecration of the monument on May 11. According to the newspaper, two intruders, whose identities have not been identified at the moment, managed to escape from the patrol. It was emphasized that this was not the first case of vandalism against monuments to soldiers of the Soviet army.
