Hamas announced plans to release an Israeli hostage with US citizenship

The Palestinian Hamas movement intends to release an Israeli hostage with American citizenship, Eden Alexander. This was announced on May 11 by the Hamas press service.
"Over the past few days, Hamas has held talks with the American administration and, following consultations, decided to demonstrate a positive attitude and release the Israeli hostage Eden Alexander, who holds dual citizenship," the movement said in a statement on its Telegram channel.
At the same time, Dmitry Gendelman, adviser to the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, confirmed plans to free the hostage. According to him, this action on the part of Hamas is "a gesture of goodwill to the American side."
"According to Washington, this step may become a prologue to the resumption of negotiations on the return of hostages based on the initial plan [of the US President's special envoy for the Middle East Stephen] Witkoff, which Israel has already approved," the adviser said in his Telegram channel.
In addition, the Ynet agency also noted that the movement confirmed the release of the hostage after contacts with the administration of US President Donald Trump. It is specified that Alexander's parents were notified of their son's release. They are heading to Israel with Witkoff.
In addition, The Times of Israel newspaper, citing a source, reported that Alexander's release could take place on Monday, May 12.
On May 6, Al Jazeera reported that Hamas had declared a danger to Israeli hostages in the event of an expansion of Israel's ground operation in Gaza. Representatives of the movement said that Israel's actions confirm its readiness to commit new war crimes under the auspices of the United States against the population of the Gaza Strip.
