Many Western countries are interested in the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 11 by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

"It is extremely important for many Western countries that this conflict continues," he said at a press conference, commenting on the reluctance of some countries to initiate direct negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Fico also expressed the opinion that Western countries will soon reconsider their position. He stressed that the Ukrainian conflict concerns only Russia and Ukraine, and if they are interested in negotiations, they should conduct them independently.

On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the proposal made by Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold talks with Ukraine indicates a real desire for peace. He stressed that it can be achieved only as a result of serious conversations.

On March 2, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the United States was talking directly about the desire to end the conflict in Ukraine, but Europe demanded "the continuation of the banquet."
