A Moldovan textbook wrote about Chisinau's war with Moscow over Transnistria
A new Moldovan high school history textbook claims that Chisinau was at war with Russia over Transnistria. This was reported on May 11 by RIA Novosti.
"Local historians claim that the parties to the conflict were Chisinau and Moscow, which acted "in support of the self—proclaimed PMR on September 2, 1990," the publication says.
According to the theses of the publication, Moldova tried to maintain its integrity, while Russia allegedly continued to pursue its interests.
The agency recalled that in Transnistria, more than half of the inhabitants are Russians and Ukrainians, who sought to leave Moldova even before the collapse of the USSR, fearing annexation to Romania. After an unsuccessful attempt by the Moldovan authorities to solve the problem by force in 1992, the PMR became a territory beyond the control of Chisinau.
On January 20, Alexey Petrovich, head of the Moldovan national organizing committee for Victory, announced that Moldova was planning to publish a history textbook justifying Romania's alliance with the Nazis in World War II. The publication does not condemn the fascist regime of Marshal Ion Antonescu, who was executed for his war crimes. Instead, the Red Army soldiers who liberated Moldova and Romania are called occupiers.
