Peskov pointed to Putin's desire for peace in Ukraine

The proposal made by Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold talks with Ukraine is evidence of a genuine desire for peace. This was announced on May 11 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"This is a very serious proposal that confirms the real intention to find a peaceful solution," he said on Channel One.
Peskov stressed that lasting peace can be achieved only as a result of serious negotiations, and Putin has shown willingness for such discussions.
On the same day, Putin announced during a press conference that Russia was offering Ukraine to resume direct talks in Istanbul on May 15.
Later, former American intelligence officer and analyst Scott Ritter noted that Putin's proposal was a brilliant maneuver and removed the issue of a 30-day truce from the agenda. He added that the president's statement returns the initiative to Russia, allowing it to dictate terms to the Ukrainian-European-American bloc.
