The Moscow government is implementing a program to create high-quality sports infrastructure in the city's districts. 175 sports complexes, including swimming pools, will be brought to the new standard, said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

"For millions of Muscovites, regular workouts are not just a fashion, but a lifestyle. For them, the Moscow Government is implementing a large—scale program to create affordable and high-quality sports infrastructure," Sobyanin said in his blog.

The mayor recalled that many regional sports and recreation complexes in Moscow were built several decades ago. In some cases, significant wear and tear of engineering systems is observed.

As a result of the program, modern multifunctional sports centers are expected to appear in Moscow. The new FOCS will be adapted to various sports, from fitness and yoga to game sports and martial arts.

The exterior of the sports facilities will also change during the reconstruction. Facades and entrance groups, reception desks will be made in the corporate style.

In total, 175 sports complexes, including 57 swimming pools, are planned to be brought to the new standard. Last year, work was completed on 14 of them, and this year, two dozen more will be updated, Sobyanin wrote.
