Biometrics may become an alternative way to identify citizens when purchasing goods with age restrictions. Roman Chekushov, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, announced this on May 11 on the sidelines of the Innoprom exhibition. Central Asia".

It clarifies that the unified biometric system is a digital platform for providing government and commercial services, such as contactless payment, transportation, business opening, MFC service and electronic signature registration. Users can manage their data through the Gosuslug portal, checking the validity period of biometrics and revoking consent to its processing. Biometric data is stored in encrypted form separately from other personal data and does not leave the system.

"This would make it possible to cut off the sale of goods to those persons who do not have the right to purchase, for example, due to age restrictions," Chekushov said in an interview with TASS.

According to him, the introduction of a unified biometric system for trading will also indicate the development of new technologies.

On February 21, the government allowed the use of biometrics for ticket registration and boarding long-distance trains. This is feasible if the railway carrier has the Appropriate technical capabilities. The relevant decree comes into force on September 1, 2025.
