Ovechkin's lip was split during a match with the Carolina Hurricanes
Alexander Ovechkin, a Russian hockey player and captain of the Washington Capitals hockey club, was injured during a match with the Carolina Hurricanes during the third match of the second round of the National Hockey League (NHL) Eastern Conference playoffs. The game took place on May 11th.
In the first period, Canadian Carolina defender Brent Burns hit a Russian hockey player in the face with a stick, after which Ovechkin fell to the ice and clutched his face. As a result of the blow, his lip was bleeding.
Despite the injury, the forward was able to continue playing after receiving medical attention. At the same time, the judges did not record any violations at this point.
The last match between the teams took place on May 10. Carolina Hurricanes beat Washington Capitals with a score of 4:0. The winning team featured strikers Andrei Svechnikov (33rd minute), Jack Roslovik (39th), Eric Robinson (44th) and Jackson Blake (57th).
