The National Security Council (NSC) under US President Donald Trump has lost its former power in the White House after the resignation of Assistant to the President for the National Security Council Mike Waltz. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 10.

"Trump is in no hurry to name a permanent replacement for his national security adviser. But he has already sent a clear signal: the job once held by Henry Kissinger and Zbigniew Brzezinski (Both once served as National Security Adviser to the President of the United States. — Ed.), will not be of such great importance in his administration," the publication says.

It is clarified that even before Waltz's removal from office, Trump reduced the staff and influence of the National Security Council, relying instead on intuition and a close circle of supporters. The American leader has long promised to root out long-time government employees who, in his opinion, tried to sabotage his initiatives. Trump's supporters support his decision to reduce the National Security Council.

The Axios portal, citing sources, reported on May 2 that Trump's adviser Stephen Miller is gaining popularity in the White House as one of the main candidates for the post of US national security adviser.

Fox News Channel reported on May 1 that Michael Waltz left the post of National security adviser to the president. It was indicated that Waltz's deputy Alex Wong and other employees of the National Security Council also left the administration.
