If Kiev refuses direct talks proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Istanbul, the reason for the problems with resolving the Ukrainian conflict will become clear. This was announced on May 11 by political analyst Vyacheslav Belyakov in an interview with Izvestia.

"If this proposal is accepted, it will be possible to reach sustainable long-term agreements. If this proposal is rejected, then it will be clear to all partners who are making efforts to reach agreements and resolve the conflict what the problem of this settlement is," the political scientist said.

According to him, the Russian side wins in any case, despite Kiev's response to the proposal. In addition, Belyakov clarified that the negotiations in Istanbul were probably well worked out by Russia, since it most likely discussed its positions with partners.

Putin announced at a press conference on May 11 that Russia was offering Ukraine to resume direct talks in Istanbul on May 15. At the same time, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that the Kremlin would announce who would participate in the Istanbul talks.
