The youngest grandmaster of the Russian Federation Zemlyansky won the Asian Blitz Championship

The youngest Russian grandmaster, 14-year-old Ivan Zemlyansky, became the winner of the blitz championship, which was held in Al Ain, UAE. This was announced on May 10 by the Russian Chess Federation (FSHR).

"In the men's section, the youngest grandmaster of Russia, Ivan Zemlyansky, won a landslide victory, scoring 8 points out of a possible 9," the message says.

The second place was taken by the representative of Iran, Movahed Sina, and the bronze medalist was another young Russian Rudik Makaryan.

In the women's section, the silver medal was won by two-time world blitz champion Valentina Gunina, who was in the lead until the last round. Aliya Nurman, a citizen of Kazakhstan, won gold with an equal number of points, taking into account additional indicators. The third place went to the representative of China, Song Yuxin.

As noted, the President of the Russian Chess Federation personally met with the winners and congratulated them on the successful completion of the competition.

On May 21, 2024, Ivan Zemlyansky received the title of grandmaster at the age of 13. His result entered the top ten achievements of chess prodigies of all time.
