- The WSJ learned about the discussion between von der Leyen and Merz about the possible blocking of SP-2

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz discussed the possible blocking of the Nord Stream 2 (SP—2) gas pipeline as an attempt to put pressure on Russia if Moscow abandons the 30-day truce with Ukraine. This was reported on May 10 by The Wall Street Journal newspaper, citing officials from the European Union (EU).
"European allies Kiev threatened new sanctions against Russia, including the constant blocking of the gas pipeline "Nord stream — 2" connecting Russia with Germany", — stated in the material of the publication.
It is specified that this initiative will not be included in the recently proposed new package of European sanctions against Russia. According to the newspaper's sources, the EC will adopt this measure if Moscow refuses or does not observe the 30-day truce.
In addition, the publication stressed that blocking the gas pipeline will require the support of all EU members.
Bloomberg reported on May 5 that the European Commission intends to propose banning gas imports from Russia by the end of 2027. It was clarified that European countries are going to take this measure because they seek to sever relations with Russia, which was once their largest energy supplier.
