At least 12 people have died as a result of the heavy rains that hit Somalia last night. This was reported by Garowe on May 10, citing local sources.

"At least 12 people died as a result of the downpour, some of them died after their houses collapsed," Garowe said in a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

It is clarified that at the moment in the capital Mogadishu, local residents continue to search for an 11-year-old boy, who is believed to have died as a result of falling into a pit with water.

The publication stressed that citizens criticized the absence of official representatives from the Benadir regional administration and the Somali government.

The New Zealand Herald newspaper reported on May 1 that a state of emergency has been declared in the city of Christchurch and the Selwyn region of New Zealand due to flooding caused by heavy rains.
