French President Emmanuel Macron believes that several thousand Western troops should be deployed in Ukraine as a reserve force. He stated this in an interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien on May 10.

"The key element is to have troops in Ukraine. It could be several thousand, but not hundreds of thousands," the French president said.

Macron explained that these troops will be deployed as reserve forces in the air or in strategic positions far from the front line. The publication noted that the journalist interviewed the French leader on May 9 on the train on the way to Kiev.

Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kiev on May 10 to participate in the Coalition of the Willing summit, where they were scheduled to discuss European support for Ukraine.
