Russia considers Nigeria as a promising partner in Africa. This was stated on May 10 by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov during a meeting with his Nigerian counterpart Christopher Gwabin Musa.

"We consider Nigeria as a promising partner on the African continent," Belousov said.

He added that Russia supports the Nigerian authorities' commitment to strengthen their armed forces to protect sovereignty, as well as bilateral cooperation between Russia and Nigeria in the military and military-technical fields.

Christopher Gwabin Musa noted that his country greatly values friendship with Russia and highly appreciates the assistance it provides. He also stressed that the Russian Federation is working for the benefit of peace and stability and always complies with agreements.

The Russian Defense Ministry clarified that the negotiations took place the day after the events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 10 that Russia would continue to help Burkina Faso fight terrorism in the country. He also noted that the Russian Federation attaches priority to providing humanitarian assistance to Ouagadougou, recalling that 25,000 tons of wheat were sent free of charge last year, and a large shipment of other food will arrive in the African republic this month.
