On May 10, Alexey Likhachev, General Director of the Rosatom State Corporation, told Izvestia about agreements with Vietnam in the field of nuclear energy and a new scientific nuclear center in the republic.

He said that Russia and Vietnam are reaching a new level of cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, noting that construction of a nuclear science research center has begun in Dongan Province, as well as the transition to the creation of a full-fledged energy project.

"This is a new quality. We have been cooperating with Vietnam for many years, since the 80s. A huge number of specialists have been trained, a lot of research, a lot of our joint participation in international institutions. But each new facility is a new stage," Likhachev stressed.

According to him, after 15 years of discussions, the Vietnamese government returned to the Russian-designed nuclear power project, and the corresponding agreement was confirmed at the level of the leaders of the countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, following talks with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, said on that day that Russia and Vietnam had agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of defense and security. Toh Lam also noted that he had agreed with the Russian leader to deepen cooperation in the fields of security and military equipment.

The Russian leader also said that relations between Russia and Vietnam are developing successfully in all areas. As an example, the president cited the trade turnover between Russia and Vietnam, which increased by 20% in 2024, which is a positive result. In addition, the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party announced his intention to discuss "some pressing strategic issues" with the Russian leader.
