Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico described his trip to Moscow, timed to coincide with Victory Day, as extremely successful.

Facebook Grave of the Unknown Soldier "In addition to fulfilling my promise to go and pay my respects and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, I managed to hold four extremely important meetings," he said on May 10 in a video message posted on Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

Fico said that in Moscow he managed to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam.

According to the Prime Minister, this trip highlights the manifestation of Slovakia's sovereign foreign policy. She brought the country diplomatic recognition at a high international level.

In addition, Fico noted that Europe should develop relations based on cooperation with Russia, not hostility.

Putin met with Fico on May 9. During the meeting, he stressed that Russia would do everything necessary to restore relations with Slovakia. The Russian President also thanked Fico for coming to Moscow, despite the difficulties that had arisen.

On May 6, Fico stated that he had received threats after deciding to attend Victory Day celebrations in Moscow. He noted that European countries are trying to erect an iron curtain around Russia and rewrite history, erasing from it the achievements of the Red Army soldiers in defeating Nazism.
