- Brazil announced plans to hold a meeting of the commission on cooperation with the Russian Federation

Brazil plans to organize a meeting of the 12th high-level commission on cooperation with Russia in 2025. This was announced on May 10 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Mauro Villera at a briefing.
Also at the briefing, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stressed that Brazil is interested in building a nuclear power plant (NPP) jointly with Russia. He announced plans to create small nuclear power plants to ensure the country's energy security.
"Russia remains an important partner for Brazil in the field of gas, oil and the construction of small nuclear reactors," he said at a briefing broadcast on the president's Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
On May 9, da Silva announced that Russia and Brazil intend to resume the work of the high-level commission on bilateral cooperation. According to him, the meetings of this commission have not been held since 2015.
During talks with the Brazilian leader on May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted mutual efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries. He stressed that relations between Russia and Brazil are developing steadily.
On the same day, Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the Rosatom State Corporation, said that Russia could offer Brazil major cooperation in the construction of low-power nuclear power plants. He noted that the hulls of floating nuclear power plants can be produced directly by Brazilian enterprises.
