The Russian Ambassador spoke about the celebration of Victory Day in Nicaragua

The celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Nicaragua has become an expression of gratitude to the people of this country, Russia, for the support provided during the revolution. This was announced on May 10 by Russian Ambassador to Managua Mikhail Ledenev.

"I thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua [Waldrak] Jencke and the President of the National Assembly [Gustavo] Porras for large—scale events, to which they replied that it was not worth thanking — Russia provided such assistance to the Nicaraguan revolution that they still remember this, they are grateful to us and with us in everything,"RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

It is specified that the central event of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War in Nicaragua was the march of the "Immortal Regiment" in Managua and the deployment of a copy of the Victory banner on Revolution Square.

In addition, Assembly Speaker Porras declared May 9 a national holiday, presenting the "Declaration of May 9 — the Day of Glorious Unceasing Struggle and Victories for Brotherhood and Peace throughout the World." Vice President Rosario Murillo, in turn, described the Soviet Union's victory over fascism as a "heroic milestone of humanity."

A festive concert with songs from the war years was also held at the Ruben Dario National Theater, and the Russian Embassy organized an exhibition and tasting of Russian cuisine.

Victory Day was also celebrated in other countries. So, on May 9, thousands of residents and guests of Berlin took part in commemorative events. They performed the musical composition "Katyusha" and laid flowers at the memorials. At the same time, some participants of the events faced a ban on organizing a commemorative march and provocateurs who stretched the flags of Ukraine, as well as opposed the action.
