French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish and British Prime Ministers Donald Tusk and Keir Starmer have threatened Moscow with new sanctions if it does not accept Kiev's conditions for a 30-day truce. The corresponding statement by the leaders was published on the British government's website on May 9.

"Together with the United States, we call on Russia to agree on a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire. <...> We will continue to increase our support for Ukraine until Russia agrees to a lasting ceasefire, and we will increase pressure on Russia," the press service said.

It is clarified that the European leaders see in the truce an opportunity to create space for further negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump called on Russia and Ukraine to accept a 30-day truce. According to him, the US administration, together with its partners, will impose sanctions if this initiative is not agreed upon. He noted that he hopes that the ceasefire will be respected by both sides.
