Peskov responded to Merz's statement on the truce in Ukraine

It is necessary to clarify the meaning of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's words about the possibility of starting a 30-day truce between Russia and Ukraine next weekend. This was announced on May 9 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during a conversation with reporters.
"We need to clarify with Mr. Merz," Peskov replied to a request from journalists to comment on the words of the German Chancellor.
On May 9, Merz announced that the members of the European Union (EU) had prepared a draft communique similar in content to the ideas proposed by US President Donald Trump on a 30-day truce in Ukraine. He added that next week would be the time for "serious negotiations" on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
