WWII veteran Kiyavkin shared his impressions of the Victory Day celebrations

Azariy Kiyavkin, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), shared his impressions of the Victory Day celebrations at the Russian Embassy in Washington, in an interview with Izvestia correspondent Nikolai Masterov.
"Every year I was present (at the celebration. — Ed.), for about 20 years I attended this lyceum. And every time it's perfect. And today it's perfect [doubly]: the guys danced so well!" said the veteran, recalling the performances of the children's dance group, arranged especially for the guests of the evening.
Azari Kiyavkin said that he was born and lived in the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbek SSR). With the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, he was summoned to a meeting, where, having handed over boots and a padded jacket, they announced the need to go to the front.
The Immortal Regiment campaign was held in Washington, the capital of the United States, on May 3 for the first time in six years. Izvestia published relevant footage from the patriotic event, which brought together Russians from different States.
On May 8, the Immortal Regiment march and the Garden of Memory action took place on the territory of the Russian Embassy in Washington. They were attended by Russian diplomats and their family members, Russian compatriots, as well as representatives of the embassies of the CIS countries and students of the school attached to the diplomatic mission.
