German Holocaust survivor Margot Friedlander has died at the age of 103.


Honorary citizen of Berlin Margot Friedlander, who survived the Holocaust, has died in Germany. This was reported on May 9 by the NTV channel with reference to the foundation of the same name founded by her.
"Holocaust survivor Margot Friedlander has died. <...> at the age of 103," the channel's website says.
It is specified that on that day she was supposed to be awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Margot Friedlander was born on November 5, 1921, into a Jewish family in Berlin. Her family died in the Auschwitz concentration camp, but she managed to survive. After the end of World War II, Friedlander emigrated with her husband to the United States, where she lived for 64 years. It wasn't until 2010 that she returned to Berlin at the age of 88.
Friedlander has received great recognition in Germany, and an award has been named in her honor for student projects dedicated to the Holocaust and modern memory culture. She also gained fame thanks to her autobiography and the founding of a charitable foundation. She received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany twice. In June 2018, when she was 96 years old, she became an honorary citizen of Berlin, and an interview book and an illustrated book were published for her 100th birthday.
