Ambassador Darchiev noted the emergence of positive aspects in relations between the Russian Federation and the United States

There are positive aspects in relations between Russia and the United States, but it will still take time to restore them. This was announced on May 9 by the Russian Ambassador to Washington, Alexander Darchiev.

"Time demands the restoration of normal relations between Russia and the United States and shared responsibility for global security," Darchiev said during an event at the embassy in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).

According to him, in the "current turbulent times", countries, based on the experience of the Second World War, when states with different political systems united against one enemy, must restore normal relations to maintain global stability.

"It is gratifying that positive aspects have emerged in this regard, making it possible, based on the military alliance of our countries in those distant war years, to overcome the toxic legacy accumulated in the previous period," the ambassador said.

In addition, Darchiev noted that the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War is important for the whole world. He added that Russian and American servicemen fought then "shoulder to shoulder." The Ambassador stressed that this feat must be remembered in order to prevent the revival of fascism.

On May 9, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced that Russian diplomats were planning new consultations between the Russian Federation and the United States on the restoration of embassies. He noted that there is an understanding that progress has been made in this direction.
